The Community Liaison Unit of the Hartselle Police Department oversees several key functions, including school security, recruitment, event planning, and the Citizen Police Academy. The unit also plays an active role in the hiring of new officers.
In partnership with Hartselle City Schools, the department ensures that every campus is staffed with law enforcement personnel. These include School Resource Officers (SROs)—full-time, certified officers—and School Protection Officers (SPOs), who are retired certified officers employed seasonally. Both roles are dedicated to maintaining the safety and security of students and staff.
The unit also assists in organizing community events such as Depot Days and various parades throughout the year.
